Utah Teacher Walks After Sex with Female Student

(Riverton, Utah) Former Riverton High School teacher Courtney Louise Jarrell, 23, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery and has been sentenced to nothing.
Prosecutors did not ask the judge to give her any time behind bars, though they could have requested up to three years.

Prosecutor Tyson Hamilton said he was impressed by the fact that Jarrell took responsibility for what happened, didn't minimize the events and apologized to the girl and her family, the Deseret News reports.
Judge Bruce Lubeck said he struggled "mightily" in determining no punishment.

(Riverton, Utah) A 22-year-old math teacher and girls' basketball coach at Riverton High School, Courtney Louise Jarrell, has been accused of raping a 17-year-old female student.

Jarrell faces charges of object rape, a first-degree felony, and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.
Jarrell, who had been on administrative leave since the allegations were brought up about a month ago, also submitted her resignation from the school on Friday, said Jordan School District spokeswoman Sandy Riesgraf.

Between February and March of this year, Jarrell had illegal sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl who attends the school, according to charging documents. Prosecutors say the activity happened at Jarrell's house.
A court appearance is scheduled for May 16.
