(Chilton, Wisconsin) Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz sentenced Laura Ernst (aka Laura Bates), 45, to one year jail and five years of probation for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old special education student.

A former Appleton West High School teacher's aide has agreed to a plea deal for having a sexual relationship with a special education student.

The deal, which consolidated charges from both Calumet and Outagamie counties, allowed 45-year-old Laura Bates to plead no contest to 3 counts of sexual assault of a student by a staff member. Four other similar charges were dropped.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 17, 2015.

(Appleton, Wisconsin) A 44-year-old teacher's aide formerly at Appleton West High School, Laura Bates, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student.

Bates faces four counts of sex assault of a student by school staff.

According to court documents the victim was a student with a special ed classification in a class where Bates worked as a paraprofessional.

Bates has been charged with four counts of sex assault of a student by school staff. Each count carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a 10 thousand dollar fine.

The charges were filed Tuesday but Bates was arrested at the school on Monday and booked into the Calumet County Jail where she remains.

The alleged crimes reportedly occurred on school property.
